London

Adrian was working in London during the week so instead of coming back Friday night he stayed until Sunday and I headed down for the weekend. We just walked around a lot (as we always do) looking at bits and pieces. We went to Tate modern, one of the places on my list of things to do in London. It was pretty cool and we got to go for a ride on the huge escalator. I wasn't aware that Monet's Water Lillies was at Tate Modern, but when I saw it there I must say I was quite transfixed by it. Often when you see a piece that was quite well known you see it and it looks exactly as you expect and it isn't much different to seeing a photo. But Water Lillies was so much better and I couldn't stop looking at it, it was that good.

We ventured to the British Museum, something on Adrians list. We got there not long before it was closing so we didn't have much time to look around, just long enough to see some of the artifacts that the museum had pillaged from across the world. The muesum itself was cool building and we will probably go back there some time. We wandered around for hours looking for some where to have tea, then had a beer or two and caught the tube back to where we were staying.

The London marathon was on Sunday morning so instead of tackling the closed roads and tonnes of people, we headed out to Kew Gardens. This time of year is supposed to be good in the gardens with lots of plants flowering but due to some early weather a lot of stuff had flowered a bit early and were a bit passed it. There were still a few garden beds that were quite spectacular though. We walked so far around the Gardens, it is a very big area and we needed a chocolatey treat by the time we got back to the entrance.

We then caught the train back to Derby which was crammed with marathon runners looking sore and sorry.
